Permanent Makeup & FAQ

What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup is a popular cosmetic and medical treatment that enhances natural features and corrects imperfections like asymmetry and discolouration. Techniques such as shaded or classic eyeliner, lip blush or ombré / powder brows offer a long-lasting, natural look.

Medical pigmentation, including areola re-pigmentation for post-reconstruction breast surgery, can be life changing. At Elite Permanent Makeup Edinburgh, we proudly offer brows, lips and eyeliner treatments. Micropigmentation can diminish natural flaws like asymmetry or discoloration, and medical-grade pigmentation can help camouflage scars and imperfections.

Procedure, Comfort & Lasting Results

Procedure Details and Comfort:

Procedures typically take about three hours to complete, as we ensure precision in shape and detail. Discomfort is minimized using numbing methods tailored to your comfort, though pain tolerance varies. Strict sterilization and sanitation protocols are followed, including single-use needles for each application.

Healing and Aftercare:

Healing takes about two weeks, with some clients experiencing mild swelling post-treatment. A dedicated aftercare regimen is essential for the best outcome, as colour settles over time. A touch-up session four to eight weeks after your initial appointment is recommended to perfect your look.

Important Pre-Appointment Guidelines:

Please ensure you’re in good health before your treatment and avoid medications, alcohol, and sunbeds prior. A detailed list of pre-treatment guidelines and contraindications will be provided at the consultation to ensure your safety and best results.

Booking & Deposit Policy:

To confirm your appointment, a £70 deposit is required within three days of booking. This deposit is deducted from your final payment and secures your slot. Please note that last-minute changes may result in forfeiting the deposit, so plan thoughtfully.

End Results and Second Visit:

Results vary by individual, depending on skin type, health, and other factors. Permanent makeup can last up to two years with proper care. A top-up appointment within four to eight weeks is necessary to finalise your look.

Frequently Asked Questions

How should I prepare myself for permanent makeup treatment?

Preparing for your permanent makeup treatment is essential to ensure the best possible results and a smooth procedure. Follow these simple steps to get ready for your appointment:

Avoid Certain Medications and Supplements

Avoid blood-thinning medications (e.g., aspirin, ibuprofen) and supplements (e.g., fish oil, vitamin E) for at least 48 hours before your appointment, unless prescribed by a doctor.
Refrain from alcohol and caffeine for 24 hours before the treatment, as they can increase sensitivity and bleeding.

Protect Your Skin

Avoid tanning, sunburn, or excessive sun exposure for at least one week prior to your treatment.
Do not use exfoliants, retinol, or strong skincare products on the treatment area for a week before your appointment.

Prepare Your Brows, Lips, or Eyelids

For brow treatments: Avoid waxing, plucking, or tinting your brows at least one week before your appointment. Let your natural hair grow to allow the artist to shape them perfectly.
For lip treatments: If you are prone to cold sores, consult your doctor about taking antiviral medication (e.g., acyclovir) as a precaution.
For eyeliner treatments: Avoid using eyelash extensions, lash growth serums, or waterproof mascara in the days leading up to your treatment.

Stay Hydrated and Rested

Drink plenty of water and get a good night’s sleep before your appointment. Feeling calm and rested will make the experience more comfortable.

Know What to Expect

Arrive with a clean face, free from makeup, lotions, or oils on the treatment area.
Be prepared to discuss your goals and preferences with your artist, including your desired shape, colour, and style.

By following these steps, you’ll help ensure your permanent makeup treatment goes smoothly and delivers the stunning, long-lasting results you’re looking for.
